             The controversy of gun control is hard to understand without knowing the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment states: "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" (Strahinich 40). So basically, the right to own and use guns is a very prominent and prestigious right that society should be proud of. With the existence of militias not as prevalent as in the past, the militia portion of the amendment does not apply to today. Regarding gun control issues, many groups take the Second Amendment and use it to support their argument by simply stating it and .

Author Ted Gottfried says that judges who interpret the Second Amendment must consider what it implies, and also think about new technology (134). Gottfried also states that the amendment was generated by a deep distrust in standing armies, and not just for the right of the people (27). Knowing these facts, Americans are wasting their time arguing over issues and should be studying them more. Author Richard Gardiner has his own viewpoint on gun control saying "The erosion of rights must be avoided by recognizing that the keeping of arms in the home must be given special protection [also]," (115). .
             Gun-related issues have been through courts and battles, all with sketchy outcomes. Many courts try and control these issues daily. Gottfried says that the courts have, in the past, interpreted the Second Amendment to only protect the rights of citizens belonging to a militia (95).
