            Graduating from high school and moving on to college is a huge step in anyone's life. This past August, I gathered up all my belongings and moved to a different state where I would begin a new life as a college student. Leaving from home and exploring ones own dreams are a very important part of maturing as a person and I was really looking forward to it. The responsibilities and freedom I incurred the moment I arrived at college was a huge wake up call. I embraced the changes in my life but I will never forget the good times I had while attending high school.
             A major transition to make for college was that of adjusting to living in a dorm room with a total stranger. My bedroom back home was decorated the way I liked it and contained all my personal belongings. There was actually enough space for all my things to fit. Space efficiency becomes a survival tactic in college. You have to cram all your things into a small room plus those of your roommate. In high school I could always seek solitude in my room when I needed to study, listen to music, or just relax. Privacy in dorm life is virtually nonexistent.              talking to his girlfriend on the phone. When I am in the mood to listen to music or watch television, he is usually asleep. In high school, you never had to worry about people walking into your room who weren't invited. In college, it's an incredibly dull day if you don't have at least five random people walk into your room to disrupt whatever you could be doing. .
             At home, family was the only people living inside the house. In college, the whole floor becomes your new family and communication between the group is important. Email becomes like a second language in college. Email in college is used to plan most of the day's activities and the phone only rings when parents make that once a week phone call to see if you are still alive.
