STRICTLY BALLROOM

And the stars of the ballroom, Ken Railings and partner always dance in white through out the whole movie. White is very elegant colour of grace, symbolizing that Ken and who ever his partner at the time, are the king and queen of dancing. But all our impressions of the characters are of a very high style. .
A: Talking of very high style, Tina Sparkles as well as Ken Railings come across as a born and bread people of the ballroom dancing world. Looks seem to characterize there personality. .
B: Unlike the stereotypical behavior and image of Liz Holt's appearance and manner. Liz's garish yellow clothing, her unnatural behavior and screeching voice; creates this image of her as being a shallow egocentric person. Liz is a shallow artificial figure in the world of dancing. She is a fly on the wall when it comes to people like Tina and Ken. The best capture of Tina's beauty is in a shot where the camera freezes and we stay in a still for a few seconds. Its like hell has suddenly stopped and Tina Sparkles is an angel, sent to stop the frustration of the dancers. She appears in an archway of lights, giving us this perception of an angel. The use of the still shot is there to capture her beauty; I wanted the audience to stop and gaze at her wonder. Ken Railings is characterized as a magnificent asset of the dance floor as he moves around, flicking his bleached blond hair smile which is dishonest. The colour white was a really good colour chosen for him being, some kind of god. Once Ken Railings is on the dance floor nothing can bring him down, maybe besides a drink or two. (Laughs) He looks quite ridiculous really all in-white. (Laughs).
A: (laughs) Yes Image seems to be everything theses days. Recently I encountered an article about the "Celebrity Boob Battle: real vs. Fake" in a women's magazine. This same idea of how visual style and glamour can take over. Gives us the very example of the attitudes of how the ballroom dancers, way of thinking is focused on clothing, hair-styles, beauty, sex, body-shape and our ideals of wealth and happiness.
