             Guide Dogs.
             Images of dogs guiding their masters have been found painted on the ancient Chinese paintings, on the walls of Pompeii, and in Rembrandt etchings from the 17th Century. It was known back then that it was possible to train dogs to guide their blind masters and now schools to train dogs are all over the world. People who are blind rely heavily on the sight of their guide dog. With a guide dog a person can travel any where they wish. The worries of the fast city life can be eliminated. Visually impaired people feel safe when they are with their guide dog. Take for example, Patricia Simons, who stated, "My dog is my partner. She gives me confidence, information about my surroundings. She guides me smoothly and carefully and gives me my independence" (Yu, 1999). Also take for example Darren Burten's comment, ""Yesterday the winding pin came out of my watch and fell off. I did not even notice it, but Levi [Burten's guide dog] did, and he picked it up, and had it in his mouth and started nudging me.I can't thank the person who raised him enough" (Jerome & Blackman, 1996). People like Patricia Simons and Darren Burten rely on their guide dogs to give them support, and confidence they need. .
             Technology with Guide Dogs.
             A child born with visual impairment these days can take full advantage of the growing understanding of technology. Research is now even going on to improve the sight of guide dogs to help their blind partners "see". Many dogs face a genetic disease called retinal atrophy.
