Even though it was Jefferson who wrote the first draft, it was Franklin's editing that made everlasting phrases. .
There were many great writers in Benjamin Franklin's period of time, but not all of them were a leader. It was possible for Benjamin though, because he was not afraid of adversary. He had shown his strong opinion of freedom of the press in "Apology for Printers". He did not want to be a follower of others. Unafraid of his adversary, Benjamin insisted for freedom of the press. His strong opinion was also shown on the Stamp Act. He led fights against arbitrary taxes imposed from England. While the other colonies were going along with such taxes, he opposed it. Through this Benjamin became an unofficial spokesman. He said, "those who would give up liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." .
However, he was not a man of extreme nature. Benjamin just put more weight on the righteous side of the balance. He was a leader, who knew the magic of negotiating with the given problems. For instance, his talent was shown in 1787, when the constitutional convention was almost breaking down due to the fact that they were fighting over whether or not population congress should be proportioned by population. First, he stated the problem clearly. Then he emphasized the importance of compromising by proposing that, "Both sides must part with some of their demands." He used this phrase very often especially during this convention. Finally, he was able to gather the compromised opinions and draw out a conclusion, which was the states lower house should be elected by the population and the senate will be voted on equally by each state. He broke the deadlock and to a large extent helped shape the nation. .
Besides helping to mold the United States of America, Ben's ingenuity helped to make everyday life in the city better. He said, "I now take up a resolution to do for the future all that lies in my way for the service of my country men".
