24-hour shopping day

In the last centuries it has become more and more common to see stores, which has open all 24-hours of the day. Like every other new trend it has lots of aspects and you will have to beware of them all to decide if it is a good or a bad thing.
For the consumer it is no doubt an advantage. The store is always open anyway, so you can do your shopping at the time you find most suitable.
At some areas it is also an advantage to the society, because 24-hour openings results in a rising demand for labour. The fact that more workplaces will be created causes that less people will become transfer income and that again causes the expenses of the state to lower.
At other areas, such as common health, the 24-hour opening time is a drawback. American analysis has held it responsible for about 200,000 car accidents and 10,000 deaths a year. The reason told was that a person, who works at night is significantly more susceptible to sleeping disorders, especially if he or she has variable shifts, than normal working persons. The same analysis tells that Americans sleep 20% less than they did 100 years ago and that 55% of the population claim occasionally to suffer from "chronic" fatigueness. This is very likely a result of the disturbance in the body's inner clock. .
A different health aspect is that if a person is working at nights only, there will be a very great risk of him getting unwell from vitamin D deficiency. It is a result of lack of sunlight. The sun provides us with D vitamins, so if we become no sunlight we become no D vitamins. Off course the vitamin can be taken as vitamin supplement in the shape of pills.
Another point of view of interest is the worker's. As described above the work will be very hard, but on the other hand will there also be a reward to be expected.
I think 24-hour opening times are all right for some lines of business, for instance supermarkets and petrol stations, but not for others as for example photocopying and churches.
