IT Outsourcing

This relates directly with the ability of an organization to make the right decision. When you have a sense of urgency in an organization, people have to be able to make decisions, which are creative and intuitive. This borrows from the concept of nonprogrammed decisions. Kotter talks about complacency. Complacency is one of the many reasons that some organizations fail. People become too involved with consistency and results, which are not negative, but do not concern themselves with decisions, which can help put the organization in a position to be ahead of its competitors. Decision making at this point becomes programmatic and doesn't allow for thinking "out of the box". Complacency is one of the problems, which arises from this type of thinking. This leads to a neglect of long-range thinking and decision making. Because the organization is successful, people become complacent. That is why it is important for people within organizations to consider non programmatic decision making for decisions which might already have a programmatic solution. The key to becoming successful is to have at least, if not more than 15 to 25 percent of the people focusing on decisions, which help to keep the organization in a position to be prepared for new and ongoing decisions which affect the organization. .
Communication plays an important role in decision making and can be very helpful when a sense of urgency exists within an organization. Communication provides the ability for decision-makers to do their jobs effectively. When a sense of urgency exists, there needs to be positive, meaningful communication. The communication must have a purpose, an idea, and intentions to help let upper management realize that a sense of urgency exists. If the communication is taken too lightly, the sense of urgency is missed and may cause a breakdown, which can not be recovered. People tend to miscommunicate problems by not getting the message across effectively.
