Among the most popular items of traditional German clothing are Lederhosen, which are Bavarian Leather shorts with suspenders. Men wear them at traditional festivals and sometimes for hiking. They also wear tall wool socks and heavy black shoes. "They wear a finely tailored jacket and sometimes a vest and ties, with a white shirt. They usually top off their costumes with a green cap that has a bird's feather or a fluffy ornament, often made of goat's hair, sticking out the side."" (Lane page 15).
The dukes, lords, and knights of Germany's many religions built strong castles and grand palaces. Many of them are open to the public as museums. Which have been restored after being bombed during World War ÉÉ. Many of the cathedrals are filled with stained-glass windows, paintings, sculptures and other artistic masterpieces.
Around 1200 B.C the Celts moves to the southern part of what is now called Germany. "Around 300 B.C., different Germanic peoples, such as Vandals, Franks, Goths, Saxons, and Cherusci started moving into Germany."" (Lane page 6) After battles and wars with the Germanic people, the Celts were focused to move. The Germanic people claimed their land, farming and raising cattle. .
Most people living in Germany are ethnic Germans. They can trace their family back to the people who settled their around 300 B.C. "Other people have come to Germany more recently. People from other countries such as Turkey, India, and Yugoslavia moved to Germany in the 1960s to look for work."" (Lane page 14) Still more people came to Western Germany in the 1980s from Eastern Germany countries, when they opened their borders and people were able to travel to the west.
Most Germans live in the cities or the suburbs. They like to live near their work and enjoy the conveniences and events close by. "Nearly every city in Germany has its own fairs or festivals; with merry-go-rounds, fast food booths, and craft exhibits.
