the winning shot

It was the biggest basketball game I've ever played in. If we won this game we were going to the playoffs, if we lost then we would be sitting at home while the team that beat us continues their journey to the ultimate goal, a state championship. It was the beginning of the game and both teams were glaring at each other as if they"d been enemies their whole life. The first quarter had just started and we took the early lead with a three pointer from me. All throughout the quarter our team was hustling all over the court and diving after every loose ball as if it was our last possession of the game. Yet, we still managed to be losing after the quarter had ended. The crowd was going wild and was so loud that we could barely hear each other talking. It felt like the floor was shaking from all of the noise in the gym.
The second quarter had begun and we knew we had to take the lead going into halftime. If we didn't the other team would have all of the momentum going into the third quarter. This is when I started to come alive. Every time down the court my team would give me the ball because they knew I was a good shooter. Time after time down the court my team would give me the ball and I would make another clutch shot. I was having the game of my life and it was only the second quarter. About halfway through the second quarter the other team started to realize I was the go-to guy on offense, so they started to double team me. I still managed to make shots and finally gave my team the lead. There was now one minute left in the quarter and we had called a timeout to make up a play to score one more basket before halftime. The play was designed for me to get the ball and score an easy lay-up. We came out of the huddle and the crowd was still really into the game, screaming at the top of their lungs. After a few passes my teammates got the ball to me and I went up for what I thought was going to be an easy two points.
