The issue of family planning is closely linked to what is called " Population .

For sometime population growth was relatively slow; the number of dying .

was about the same as the number of people who were born. To look at it in another .

way, the number of people on this planet is presently increasing by about 170 people per .

minute. That adds up to 250,000 people everyday, enough to start another single city. .

This also means the population increases 90 million per year. That would be the .

equivalent of three Canada's. This growth is occurring in all parts of the world.

With modern scientific advances , diseases that often caused death were now .

being able to be treated. .

The number of people were starting to increase. This made the government start .

to worry and decided that maybe it would be a wise idea to limit the population growth .

through family planning.

A good example of this is, suppose a farmer owns ten acres of land. If he has .

ten children and divides the land equally among all ten children they will each I acre of .

land. If each of those children have ten children and has to divide his land equally that .

means that they get only one tenth of the land that their grandfather had. The children .

with one tenth of the land will have a much harder time to make ends meet, as they .

won't have as much land and they will not be able to produce enough food for their .

family. Eventually there will be a family but no land for them. If the family is in trouble .

them the society is in trouble. This will make a big struggle for them in life.

As the number of people increase there are greater demands on forests, topsoil, .

and fresh water. This means that the resources are going to be used up. Then what is .

going to happen for the next generation?.

This is why the government finds it increasingly difficult to provide the housing, .

schools sanitary facilities, roads and health care needed for the size of the population.
