Sex Sells But At Who's Cost?

The problem with shows like MTV, is that it is negative and sexist portrayal of women in music videos. It has become a concern that women and the stereotypical roles they are featured in send the wrong message to young adults. It is unfortunate that women are made to be mere ornaments, unable to function or be fulfilled without the role of a man in their lives. This is an important issue to consider because it affects everyone, both men and women. This type of media portrayal only serves to stifle the advancement of women in every area of their lives. MTV, instead of using its popularity among America's youth for a good cause, is an industry that is slowly detonating these kid'smorals. .
There are several ways that these issues may be addressed, in order to ensure that young women value their academics rather than their physical appearance. Primarily as many critics would agree, it is very important that parents from an early age in their child's life, teach them that physical beauty should not be their prime concern. Caretakers should stress the need for higher education and creativity. A child's early developing character will remain strong if all these ideals are encouraged by their parents. In my personal case, I always remember my mother congratulating me for doing well in school, and rewarding me for good grades. She insisted that as a female independence was very crucial in order to lead a successful life. Never growing up did I feel that I had to be the prettiest to be the best, but to be the smartest. This positive attitude, I feel is the reason why I have accomplished so much in my life. .
Another method in decreasing the popularity of MTV is through censorship. There are new state of the art devices where parents can place on their family TV set and regulate what shows their children can watch. This tactic is especially effective on young children who can be restricted from watching sexual and violent shows.
