If society continues to promote an unrealistic body image the numbers of adolescent cases of anorexia and bulimia will continue to increase. Like the Barbi twins, Shane and Sia, who were Playboy Playmates in the mid 90s', they too battled with their weight. As young girls, they were obsessed with their appearance, which led them to start dieting at an early age, while they were Girl Scouts both Shane and Sia, developed bulimia. Bulimia is an eating disorder especially of young women that is marked by episodic binge eating and subsequent feeling of guilt and by measure to prevent weight gain, such as self-induced vomiting. As a result, in 1996, Sia Barbi's uncontrollable addiction to loosing weight landed her in the hospital due to overdosing on 100 laxatives. As a society, we have allowed appearance to control our views of others for far too long. In order to rid our society of this crippling behavior that has tendencies of deadly consequences, we need to express to young girls that education, self-esteem and moral value is far more important than appearance.
