The main three categories are: The Community, Environmental Affairs, and the Citigroup Foundation. In the community, Citigroup takes a leadership role in helping build communities and emerging markets around the world. This is accomplished through the ways in which our businesses operate and our efforts to encourage employee volunteerism, direct financial support, and active personal and institutional involvement in worthy organizations and programs. In every location, Citigroup adheres to the same high standards of ethics, fair lending and fair access to financial services, customer privacy, diversity in hiring, and cultural and environmental sensitivity (Citigroup Online).
Citigroup believes that working to conserve and enhance the environment is good business practice. As a concerned global corporate citizen, Citigroup analyzes the potential environmental impacts of its business activities and takes action to either reduce environmental risk or promote benefits. We recognize that environmental issues are complex and as such, and we strive to be a responsible participant in the financial services industry's efforts to address them. The corporate Environmental Affairs unit demonstrates Citigroup's early recognition of the importance of the environment and our long-standing commitment to safeguarding the world's natural resources. The unit serves as an information and advisory resource for the corporation's member companies, which include Salomon Smith Barney, Citibank and Travelers. Among the unit's responsibilities are: tracking environmental regulatory and legislative trends that may have an impact on industries of interest to Citigroup and its clients; monitoring the application of environmental standards by a diverse range of financial institutions, such as the World Bank, OPIC and national export credit agencies; and communicating strategic environmental profit and risk opportunities through its Business-Environment Integration Program (Citigroup Annual Report).
