" Although Matthews's lyrics are moving in all of his songs, it seems as if his true talent lies in his ability to write songs about love. His songs of love are probably the most inspirational and uplifting of all. The Dave Matthews Band's songs of being in love are among the greatest poetry I have ever witnessed. From his uplifting songs on the joy of love like "Rapunzel" to a more serious tone in "Crush." Either way Dave Matthews has changed my perspective on love to a more pure form and helped me to express my feelings in a way that I previously could not. It's almost as if he is in my mind bringing out what cannot be said in words. In his lyrical masterpiece "Crash Into Me," Dave Matthews explains just how one feels when they are truly in love. A few lines from "Crash into Me" such as: "sweet like candy to my soul. / sweet you rock and / sweet you roll" (7-8), shows the poetic metaphors Dave uses in his lyrics to captivate his audience and take them on a musical journey. To say I get lost in Dave Mathews's music is an understatement. In "Rapunzel", a catchy song about love, Dave expresses himself in a very clever way: .
For you I would crawl. .
Through the darkest dungeon. .
Climb the castle wall. .
If you are my Rapunzel. .
You let your hair down. .
Right in through your window.
Good they locked the door. (26-32).
In this section from "Rapunzel" Matthews shows how he can express his feelings in song by using a classic fairy tale. This song proves his witty sense of music and shows that there are countless numbers of tones one can take in writing a song about love. It basically says ill do anything for my love, but does it in a tought out clever way. .
Matthews also proved his talent in "Crush" a love song with a more serious tone. Matthews now expresses himself about love in its purest form: .
Crazy how it feels tonight. .
Crazy how you make it all alright love. .
You crush me with the things you do.
