Though it takes most boys a little longer to reach an age of sexual maturity and to have a vested interest in the opposite sex, once it is there all self containment is lost. The segregated playground has suddenly converged upon itself and all dichotomy is lost. .
Co-ed parties seem to blossom overnight. Discovery of games such as Truth or Dare and Spin-the-Bottle are played with exhausting excitement. Pests, turn into classmates, turn into friends, turn into crushes, which turn into boyfriends. The first real interaction with the opposite sex is not based on respect and common interests, instead, first wanton relationships are based on popularity and cuteness. The expectation of having a boyfriend supercedes the desire for one. Jennifer Scanlon addresses the motive in most adolescent aged games, pointing out that, "For the four games discussed in this essay, though, players must obtain boyfriends rather than consumer goods. Whether a girl steals one from a friend, wins one through her own matchmaking skills, or reads one in her future, a boyfriend rather than a career or a life remains the player's central goal -(473). Due to the popularity of these games, our youthful girls are learning not only the importance that society places on having a boyfriend, but also the means by which to attain one sexual attractiveness. Thus, girls learn at a young age that in order to achieve the success of having a boyfriend, you must be sexy and attractive.
