Gun Control

 

            PRO- STRONGER LAWS WOULD REDUCE RISK OF GUNS .
             A gun cannot go off unless someone pulls the trigger, but in the absence of guns there would be no triggers available to pull and no one would die. .
             To reduce the amoumt of deaths due to handguns, much stronger laws need to he put into effect. All people, especially teenagers, should not he able to obtain guns, bullets, hand grenades, and explosives. In the past year and a half, several incidents have occurred where a teenage has gotten hold of a gun, come to school and killed. It has happened far too many times. Every day, 15 children under the age of 19 are killed by gunfire. .
             In other countries it is much harder to get hold of a gun. Those countries who strictly enforce gun control, have lower crime rates. .
             Children and teenagers should never he able to obtain handguns. Adults should have to go through waiting periods, intense criminal record checks, and perhaps even counseling to ensure that they are mentally stable before they are given a gun. .
             Five days hefore his assassination, Robert Kennedy spoke these words,."With all the violence and the murders and the killings we have in the United States. we must keep firearms from people who have no business with guns." .
             Those opposing firearms control legislation want to uphold the second amendment to the constitution, "the right to keep and bear arms." The Supreme Court has tried to make it clear that this amendment does not apply to individual citizens bearing arms. Exceptions have been made to the Constitution and one or them is that the right to life comes before the right to keep and bear arms. .
             They also argue that gun control laws will negatively affect the sportsperson who only uses guns responsibly for hunting. People use rifles and shotguns for hunting, not handguns and semiautomatic weapons. .
             Everyone has a share of the responsibility, because we as a society have made guns and even explosives, readily obtainable.
