I believe some things on the internet should have higher security, for example it should be more difficult for children to access pornography or other sexual information. I do not think, however, that anything should be "banned." While in school, children should be able to play appropriate games in their free time, so there should not be a ban on games at school. .
I also believe that inappropriate sites should have their own labels, to prevent instances such as children looking for information about the White House and ending up in a pornographic website because they typed in http://www.whitehouse.com. Instead it should be something like http://www.whitehouse.xxx. .
The internet is a very good thing; it allows us to talk to a friend all the way across the United States for less than the cost of a local phone call. It also allows us to play video games with a total stranger from a different continent. But guns were also a very good thing a long time ago. Nothing could be bad about them; you could protect your family or yourself without a worry. Not now, because someone always messes a good thing up. It is also my opinion that if you make something illegal, people will try harder to get it, and they will not be happy until they see why it was made illegal. When you tell a small child not to do something, they will do it. When you say do not look down, someone looks down. When you tell someone not to push a button, they will push it. If you ban something on the internet, someone will break in to it.
I say just leave everything open with different layers of security. Let children check their e-mail. Let children play games in school. Let children chat in the right chat rooms, but put a higher restriction on the rooms with a more mature conversation. If everything on the internet that wasn't appropriate for everyone was blocked, there wouldn't be an internet. Keep monitors in chat rooms to keep pedophiles away from America's (or anyone else's, seeing how it is an international thing) children.
