As a recreational drug, marijuana can serve to remove social limitations. Like alcohol, marijuana changes your state of mind. Marijuana makes a person euphoric, generally speaking, and to put it non-scientifically, happy people don't start fights. When people are smoking marijuana together, its easier for them to bond and find things in common, just as when people are drinking men find it easier to talk to women and dance with them. Finally (taking into account these are just some good aspects), some people find that they are more creative when they use marijuana. Science backs this theory because marijuana increases the brains alpha waves: alpha waves are generally associated with creativity. Great musicians (from all genera, not just rap) use marijuana to make their musicsuch as musicians like Tom Petty, Beatles, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, James Brown this list could keep going. American presidents have used it. Presidents like Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington (grew it, some evidence he smoked), Bill Clinton there were others too. Great minds such as Aaron Sorkin (creator of West Wing), Carl Sagan (scientist, writer), JRR Tolkien (writer of Hobbit), Dr Francis Crick (won Nobel Peace Prize) also smoked marijuana. The latter all admitted to marijuana use. It is apparent marijuana is not a drug that leaves in its wake only victims.
The most important thing about a drug, however, is not what it does that is good, instead it is what it does that is bad. According to DARE (drug abuse resistance education), the problems are too numerous to legalize. The DARE allegations are: Marijuana overdoses could occur, use eventually leads to brain damage and, or, memory problems. Heart problems, hormonal changes, reproductive system damage, weakened immune system, birth defects, cancer, fat cells retain the drug and can keep one high for long periods of time, Amotivational Syndrome, driving ability hurt, the gateway effect to other drugs and drug use leading to crime are all cited as marijuana related problems.
