Mormonism: Is It Christianity?

40). Bruce McConkie goes on to explain more in depth: "There are three Gods separate in personality, united in purpose, in plan, and in all attributes of perfection" (Mormon Doctrine, p. 670). Not only do Mormons believe that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are not the same being, but they believe that there are three different Gods altogether. This openly contradicts the foundation of Christianity: there is only one God. .
Mormonism and Christianity also differ on the subject and person of Jesus Christ. Mormonism teaches that Jesus was the physical son of Mary and Adam and that there is nothing in Jesus" life that is unattainable by everyone else on Earth. Mormons see Adam and God as one in the same person. Brigham Young, who was one of the most famous and most accomplished members of the Mormon Church stated, "When the Virgin Mary conceived the child Jesus he was not begotten by the Holy Ghost. And who is the father? He is the first of the human family Jesus, our elder brother, was begotten in the flesh by the same character that was in the Garden of Eden" (Discourses of Brigham Young, 1:50-51). This is not what Christians believe. In John 1:14, it is said that Jesus Christ is the eternal Word of God, the second Person of the Trinity, and he took on a human nature at His birth in Bethlehem. Since then, He exists eternally as one person with both divine and human natures (Bechtle). It is also said in that same passage that Jesus was the only begotten son of the Father God. The scripture directly refutes the Mormon principles that Jesus does not have eternal divine characteristics and that Jesus is not the begotten son of God. .
The issue of sin is always a sensitive subject in religious discussions, and Mormonism is no exception. The idea and philosophy behind original sin does not exist in Mormonism as it does in Christianity. In the Bible, it is said that "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).
