The Bubonic Plague had spread to the far reaches of Europe and was continuing to devour any living and every living thing that came in its path. The origin of the Black Death was that it came from china and spread from there. The first sickness broke out in Gdoi in the 1320's. The fleas that lived on the rats were the primary source why the Black Death occurred. These fleas carried out the Plague and whoever it infected would die in a couple of days. The plague had spread through the East and in Italy in 1348. During this time more than one third of Europe's population had died due to the Black Death. When many Europeans heard about this they went straight to the doctors to get a cure but there was nothing that could help them. Even the fierce Mountain Mongols did not even stand a chance against the plague. Though they were the most ruthless tribe, it would not help when the came face to face with the plague. It didn't matter if you were rich or poor. If the plagues got you there was no escape.
In 1346 reports of a terrible pestilence in China, spreading through Mesopotamia and Asia Minor had reached Europe, but caused no concern until two years later. In January of 1348 the plague had reached Marseille in France and Tunis in Africa. By the end of the next year the plague had reached as far as Norway, Scotland, Prussia, Iceland, and Italy. In 1351 the infection had spread to include Russia. The plague flared up all along the trade routes of this flourishing society, causing great devastation and severely weakening the central authority of Justinian. It is probably "Justinian's Plague" that is most directly responsible for the continued freedom of German tribes from Byzantine rule. The Germanic tribes had begun to dominate parts of the former Roman Empire and Emperor Justinian had assembled an army to reclaim these western lands. This army never marched due to the widespread death and disorganization that the plague spread.
