Social Contract

Galileo, for instance, said that the nature "scritta in lingua matematica", which means that the nature can be explained by math. Hobbes was also very influenced by the progress, new openness, scientific methods, inventions, and was talking about the necessity of the science, which should study politics. As this very science he suggested own philosophy of the State. He asserted that if people would study politics they would be able to affect on the situation and provide security the citizens. Besides, Hobbes was influenced by another great thinker - Rene Descartes, who asserted that animal is a difficult machine. Hobbes also developed this thesis but applied it to a man. Trying to use rational methods he attempted to explain a man as a calculating machine. This is how he explains human :.
"What is hurt but a spring, and the nerves but so many strings,.
and the joints but so many wheels giving motion to the whole .
body such as was intended by the artificer?"1.
He says that a man does not need a soul, because it is a machine. Moreover, he explains a society as a man - Leviathan. Which is also a machine and all the actions inside the society are just mechanical processes and interactions.
The reason of why people do need social contract is the nature of man. According to Hobbes people in the state of nature are equal by nature. Originally all people were created equal (in physical abilities, mind and hope in the attaining of their aims). Hobbes defines man selfish, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short. They are aggressive and greedy in their nature. Everybody having equal rights to welfare of society and do not afraid to use any means to get the aim they want because they are far from morality. Besides all of them are afraid of death. This leads to the conflict and clash between them. They become enemies to each other.
