Power Of The Presidency

This is another power of congress that has been unofficially cast by the wayside; because the president has taken it upon himself to speak for all Americans has our chief representative. .
Also, the population of White House staff has been increasing in size since Harry Truman. So much so it has become the unofficial "fourth branch" of government. This allows presidents to govern through staffers, who congress has no hand in appointing. Thus, the largest branch of government is accountable to one man who has virtually unchecked power.
Before the office of the chief executive becomes too powerful, the congress must assert itself. It is fully within their power to dramatically reduce the number people in the executive branch, and holding the rest accountable to someone other than the president. The mindset that president is the only representative that matters but be thrown off by the American people, and restated as the Founding Fathers did, that the congress is where the true power should lie. Without that we will no longer be a representative democracy, we will be an elected dictatorship. .
Those are the contentions of Mr. Lind, as an obvious anti-federalist, he believes the congress is the only institution with the right to claim they govern by the will of the people. While inspired and well thought out, Mr. Lind's argument that congress should hold more power than the executive is inherently flawed. With over 500 representatives in both houses of congress it is impractical to think that, that many people could get together to decide anything on a timely basis. When there is an immediate threat against the U.S. or one of our allies there must be one person who is ultimately charged with deciding on what course of action to take. If such a case where brought before members of congress they would still be debating the issue as the bombs where landing on the National Mall. .
There is a reason the president is given the title commander-in-chief, the framers of the constitution knew the most important decisions had to be made by one person elected by the people.
