By creating a different government, the South will decide to regulate laws and statutes as they see fit for their purposes. How does an oppressed group come up with a virtually new administration that is different from the present one? Naturally, secession came into the minds in the southern elitist mind. So that's just what they propose, by seceding, or breaking away from the Union, they will be able to devise a new government that fits their purposes. To show how much the south disliked and loathed their neighbors, they proposed to secede for good if a republican assumes the 1860 presidential election. History shows that Abraham Lincoln won the election; that was more than enough to confirm their decision. South Carolina was the first state to break away and by February of 1861 Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas joined the newly formed Confederate States of America. The south clearly demonstrated a need for change in them and for their economic living. By creating this "sacred right of self government", the north, as we shall see, will have a strong opposition against this new government.
Next, I will focus on the northern thinking mentality against there soon to be war neighbors. As the newly elected president of the United States has it, "My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or destroy slavery." Without any hesitation, President Abraham Lincoln immediately gives his assertion in the crisis that afflicted the United States. The crisis, of which almost everyone was acquainted with, was seceding from the Union by the Confederacy. Article 1, section 10 declares the following: " No state shall, without the consent of Congress, lay any Duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power- The Union saw this breaching of the constitution by the south as rebellion.
