             Description of the Social Problem:.
             A. The Scope and Diversity of the Problem:.
             .
Exercise addiction can have both positive and negative aspects, but one must realize that the negative side's weight will always be greater than the positive's side. A well known theory by Dr. William G. Lasser from 1976, describes this greatly. He states that "exercise addiction is not to be confused with positive addiction." Positive addiction is best defined by stating that one has the mind power to do an obviously "boring" activity until it is something they are no longer bored with. In addition, any sport would fall into this positive addiction theory. This is why it is so easy for an addiction to arise in teens. One who likes to run or workout, because they like the results or they like the way it makes them feel can say they have a positive obsession, not necessarily an addiction. When the same activities are partaken, but not just for the same reasons, exercised addiction could be present. Addicted exercisers will have signs of withdrawal if they don't workout or psychologically know they won't be able to for even a few days. They might feel agitated, angry, or depressed. But when the addicted becomes so strongly hooked and dependent on exercise, they tend to over work there bodies putting there health in jeopardy.
