Why We Communicate

The next word was death and the dictionary said that it was a noun describing the act of dying, termination of life. The last word I looked up was pornography. I was interested to see what this meant, or at least to the dictionary authors. It stated that pornography was a noun that represented any sexually explicit pictures, writing, or other material whose primary purpose is to cause sexual arousal.
The first person I asked was one of my best friends Dana. We started off easy with the word sexy. She felt that sexy meant someone that attracts you in an intimate way and have sexual relations with. Dana has had a very long history with her ex- boyfriend. When she thinks sexy, an image of a hot body and gleaming eyes starring into hers is what she sees. She looks at sexy as a word that goes along with intimacy. On to the next word we went. I said love and she said oyy jesus, her exact response. She states that love is a pain in her ass, confusing, annoying, and over rated. I can totally feel her on this one. Dana and I were both on and off and constantly fighting with our ex-boyfriends for a while. After going through so much with someone- the aggravation, frustration, tears, pain, and time spent yelling, you just don't look at love the same. Love is no more a great and wonderful thing but rather a consumption of time that causes too much pain. The next word I knew was going to be hard for her, that word was death. Dana lost her father a few years ago and I knew this wasn't an easy topic to be discussed. When I said the word death she responded with another oyyy and a sad look on her face. Before I went any further I told her that she didn't have to answer and I could have easily found someone to do this. She said she was fine and continued on. She said that her dad was the first thing that came to her mind, which I knew would happen. Her answer was my dad, what else could I possibly think about.
