The Wedding Planner Network consists of a layer3 switch, a router, a printer, a web server, an email server, a file server, 3 desktops, one workstation and two laptops. All the servers, workstations and laptops components will have to be backed up in the event of a disaster. The file server and web server data will be backed up with a tape drive. .
The back up schedule for desktops, workstation and laptops will be on a weekly basis. Files will be backed up immediately every time they are modified through differential backup. A full backup of the file server will be performed every week. Every morning, the back up tape will be taken from the drive unit and will be stored in either a fireproof safe or stored offsite. The tapes should be labeled Monday thru Sunday with an additional 3 tapes for backups. These additional 3 tapes will be used for the full backups every Saturday on a rotational basis. .
Disaster Recovery .
Disaster recovery planning is absolutely vital to any business. Disasters may happen at any time anywhere. What is important is how quickly a business can get its critical business functions back up and running. With adequate data back up, half the battle is won. The other half relies on the ability of the organization to get its hardware, software and human resources together as soon as possible. With this in mind, a disaster recovery plan begins to coalesce.
Firstly, a team has to be formed. Keeping in mind that this is still a small company; the disaster recovery team will tend to be small as well. The steps to a recovery plan are as follows:.
• Select project team members.
o Personnel involved: in the case of ABC, only the owner/manager and system administrator will be involved on the company's side. Other team members may include hardware and software vendors, ISP providers and the disaster recovery company's representative.
