How Real is Reality TV?

The EMMYs classified Reality TV as a separate category to 'scripted' TV this year. This is due to the growing amount of Reality TV shows produced for our TV screens. What is it about Reality TV? Reality TV shows are just a different type of show that entertains with a reality based theme(s), which the show revolves arouns and can be controlled. The show can be as real as the people who "control" it choose to portray it to the audience.
Reeality TV shows do not give a real perception of society as a whole. Reality TV shows first must choose a 'cast' for the show. This is done by auditions where only a select few are chosen out of thousands od candidates. The select few are supposed to represent a variety of human attributes and characteristics. They are selected because their attributes are appropriate for that show. They vary, but do not represent a real society. Why is it that children , the homeless, people with disabilities, and who are 80 years old are never shown on Reality TV shows?.
Reality TV shows can deceive the audience into a false sense of judgemnet of a 'cast' member. This is done with the aid of editing. There is no way a Realty TV show can show a day of 'action' with a 30 minute period of time. The most interesting bits are chosen by the editors to be shown on the show. The way the clips are shown , why they are specifically shown ans the numner of times the clip is shown are purposely done to prevoke a reaction from the audience to make the show more interesting, to seduce them into watching the show once more. Editting falsifies a character as it only shows 'snippets' of what the true character might be. The editors take a biased approach when editting, showing only what they want to show, and also take things out of context and manipulate.
