Sleeping away Your Grades?

For my research question, I chose to relate the number of hours a student receives of sleep each night, and the student's over all grade point average. The main reason why I chose to research sleeping and grade point averages is because I wanted to see if the number of hours of sleep per night reflected the student's grade point average in any way. I think it is interesting to hear how many hours of sleep a student gets each night and how well they are able to perform academically. Sleep is very important in a students schedule and one would think it would be extremely important to receive the suggested amount of 8 hours of sleep per night to perform adequately. However, this may not be the case. There are many other factors that impact a student's grade point average other than sleep. These other factors will be discussed in the discussion section. .
             Method:.
             A. Participants: For this experiment, there is a sample size of 20 cases. Ten males and ten females were each asked the number of hours of sleep they received during a weeknight, as well as their overall grade point average. Each participant was picked randomly. The subjects were either a boy or girl student attending a university, freshmen through senior level.
             B. Variables and their Measurement: The number of hours of sleep per weeknight variable was measured by simply randomly choosing 10 males and 10 females and asking them how many hours of sleep they received each weeknight, and then recording their response. The overall grade point average variable was measured by asking the same 10 males and 10 females what their overall grade point average was using the 4.0 grading scale. The major grouping variable was that each person was classified as either a male or a female student. .
             Hypotheses:.
#1 Null Hypotheses: Male and female students receive the same amount of hours of sleep per weeknight.
#1 Alternative Hypotheses: Females students receive more hours of sleep per weeknights than male students.
