Trouble

The flaw in the fence's design was that it only surrounded the field on three sides. I guess since the other side bordered on a cornfield they thought no one would be stupid enough to try and cross it. Boy, were they wrong. So as we made our way through the corn stalks, we entered the field. The massive field stretched as far as our eyes could see. The only part of the building we could see was the tower. Just looking at this old rundown guard tower sticking straight up in the black night sky gave me the chills. It was like something out of a horror movie. We kept walking slowly through the field. It seemed as though I could feel each individual blade of grass rub up against my leg. Like the others I was with, I was wearing all black. I had a Lincoln High football t-shirt turned inside out, and my black gym shorts on. Afraid that someone might see my ridiculously pale legs sticking out I wore a pair of black football socks that went all the way up and underneath my shorts. We had only walked fifty feet, but I was already sweating; it may have been a mix of fear and the typical hot humid Lincoln summer night. .
We found ourselves on a gravel path that lead through the field, part of it was still soaked from the rain we received the night before, so we had to walk on the high end of it. My heart was racing; it seemed to beat fast with every step. The closer I got the faster my heart was beating. By the time we could see the entire building I felt like my heart was going to explode.
The path had taken us to a ditch that almost looked like a moat, and we laid in if for a minute or two until we caught our breaths from our fast paced walk through the field. On the upslope on the other side of the ditch was a hill that was a bout 15 feet tall and steeply sloped down to the dirt that surrounded the inner fence. This was the dirt that the police drove on and watched closely because it directly surrounded the abandoned prison.
