Embryo's

The body is made up of 210 different kinds of tissues, and stem cells are the cells that make up and originate those tissues. Stem cells are unique in the way that they can form more specialized cells, but they stop there; not being able to form a full human being. Stem cells are different and of a lesser value than the embryo. This idea seems almost inconsistent with the fact that even though they aren't equal, destroying the embryo is the most common and best found way to obtain the stem cells. This debate weighs both the pro's and con's of this research, and concludes that stem cell research is wrong because it goes against the morals and oaths of our country. (Reese, Charley).
There are many reasons for the use of stem cell research in the United States. Stem cells can be replicated and used continually over and over in numerous amounts of studies, and they also can be used to save lives and cure diseases. There are many diseases like diabetes and parkinson's that occur because of the death or abnormality of just one cell, which as already pointed out could save hundreds to thousands of lives. Also, if an unlimited amount of human cells and tissues are made researchers have more to work with helping them to test new drugs in a way they weren't able to before. Another reason stem cell research would be positive is because they could possibly take the cells and grow whole new organs for people in need of transplants. Along with the reasons listed above new research shows that stem cells in adult tissue and the use of stem cells from bone marrow or umbilical cord tissue could be used instead of the embryo, solving the problem of killing an unborn life. Finally, researching material like this will allow scientists to just better understand the processes of development and cell biology, possibly finding even more cures to different cancers or birth defects. The pro's of this research seem great, but when you get into the ethical and moral side of this case, there is a lot to be argued.
