The Real Rules

This rule is based on respect and equality. Respect for us and for the opposite gender. Men and women are equal; therefore, we are all of the same value. As a result, if we want a man to be honest, we should be honest to start with. If we want a man to treat us with respect, we should treat them with respect. According to THE OLD RULES, women should let the men make all the first moves. For example, one of the old rules is not to talk to a man first. Always let them approach us first. If we were to follow this rule, we would have a hard time just trying to have a simple conversation with the opposite sex. To avoid this, Barbara encourages us to reverse the rule that we are thinking about using. We do this by making it the man's rule, and seeing if this is the way we would like to be treated. This rule will guide us into treating a man with the same delicacy that we would like to be treated with.
Real Rule #5 Be Yourself. This is the shortest rule in the book, but it's the rule that is most commonly forgotten. Women forget this rule because, somehow, we have been so accustomed to using the old rule. The real rule is about conducting ourselves in a manner that is truly who we are, inside and out. We should never hide the real person that we are. In contrast, THE OLD RULE told us to act and hold back. Women had to act in a way that was pleasing to a man in order to catch him. Also, we had to hold back information, feelings, opinions, and preferences about ourselves in order to not scare the men away. Barbara suggests that we cancel this old rule by doing exactly what the new rule says, Be Yourself. If we act this way, we will be more natural and relaxed. The right man will like and love us for who we really are. This real rule will keep the wrong men away.
Real Rule #11 Judge a Man by the Size of His Heart, Not by the Size of His Wallet. When we look for man, we need look at their inner beauty, not their outer beauty or what they posses.
