Shooting an Elephant

In order to write a successful essay on George Orwell's essay I first need a strong thesis statement. Without this, my paper will have no central idea and may be very disorganized. I also need a clearer and better understanding of the text itself. I know what the text was about but I am not sure as of now what the meaning of it was. I only see the story of the Englishman shooting the elephant, not the point of it. If I don't have a better understanding of this I will only simply summarize the essay, which I know is not our assignment at all. .
I plan on preceding the writing assignment by working a little bit on the paper each day until it is due. This way I will be able to put all of my ideas on paper even if they do not make sense. I will have enough time to come back and organize my thoughts instead of having them randomly across the paper. I also know from previous papers that if I write and then put it aside I can come up with many better ideas and correct more mistakes that I might have missed before. I think that having my paper read by three other people will be the most helpful of all the processes that I plan to go through. Last year we had peer reviewing and a few extra voices help me out tremendously. I am able to take criticism well and not become offended which is what you need for the exercise to work. .
I can envision myself conquering many problems during my writing process. The first problem that I know that I will have is that I do not have a clear understanding of the text itself, which I stated before. If someone were to ask me what the article was about I could explain it to them with ease. Writing a paper on it, however, is a different story. I have a hard time trying to find the meaning and point that Orwell is trying to get across to the reader. I can also see myself staring blankly at my computer not knowing what to type. Getting my point down on the paper has always and will continue to be difficult for me.
