Excessive Love

This essay is about the novel "Till We Have Faces", written by C. In the Novel, Orual demonstrates selfish love for Psyche. This love is not only excessive, but also obsessive for a sister. Many of the things Orual say's and does are too drastic for a sisterly love. Through out the novel, Orual tries to force Psyche to love her and only her. Orual even betrays Psyche in order to get her to love only Orual. In the following paragraphs I will convince you the reader, that my theory is correct.
Orual's love for Psyche is very selfish. Many of the actions Orual takes through out the novel portray her selfishness. For example, when Orual finds Psyche on the Mountain of the God, she tries to convince her that she does not belong in the place she has come to, and speaks of taking her away from her newfound home and husband. Orual can not see any of the objects that Psyche speaks of, such as her kingdom and riches. Therefore Orual does not believe that any of it is true, and worries that Psyche does not have the strength or supplies she needs to survive the harsh winters. Psyche is happy with her new home and family, and does not want to go with her. The egotistic nature of Orual shines through when she sees that Psyche is happy, but only cares about her own happiness. Orual even tells Psyche that she is in another state of mind and that she needs to be taken care of.
Orual's love for her sister Psyche is both excessive and obsessive. Through out the novel Orual tries to obtain a certain power over Psyche. When Orual returns to the mountain, she threatens to kill both herself and Psyche if she does not follow her directions. Her directions are simple; although instructed not to by him, Psyche must bring light upon her husband to prove true Orual's theory that he is a monster. Based on these actions taken by Orual, it is shown that she is indeed obsessed with Psyche, and that her love for her is also excessive.
