Recent Problems in Zimbabwe

The sun is the closest and most convenient source for energy there. And while less than 0.1 percent of the energy needs of the continent is solar generated, hydro and thermal electricity has not yet reached the majority of Zimbabweans, particularly in rural areas.
This dilemma of solar energy has retarded economic growth. For industries and machinery, even every day tasks, energy is a necessity. With solar energy lacking, these daily life in Zimbabwe has been difficult. Zimbabwe is also losing a lot of foreign currency importing hydro-electricity and oil fuel, two essential sources of energy.
Steps have been made in the direction of a solution on this matter. The Zimbabwe government has committed itself to transforming its ad-hoc renewable promotion of energy into all priority of stakeholders as a way to foster sustainable socio-economic growth in the country. Zimbabwe has so far received more than 200 million United States dollars toward this problem. It will be used to implement the regional solar energy renewable program to improve lives of people in rural areas. It still remains to be seen what impact this new technology will have, nevertheless. A 10-year program aimed at the wider use of all sources of environmentally sound and renewable energies was approved by the World Solar Commission in 1997. Also, many programs in renewable energy have been introduced at the University of Zimbabwe, which is the regional center for the Southern African Development Community. (Shixing).
Socially, Zimbabwe has quite a few problems. Not only is there social unrest about the land problems (with which President Mugabe is not helping much), recently many Zimbabwean social workers were sent to the UK.
Some years ago, the white minority took the land from the black majority. Back then, the white man was much more dominant than the black man, when racism and prejudice ran freely through many countries where the black man was most prevalent.
