Poetry Response to

Be thankful for each day you have, and live life to the fullest. That is what Linda Pastan narrates in her poem, "Unveiling." In the poem she is walking through a cemetery and is visiting the graves of late family members. She reminisces about past family events that make her feel happy and comments that she feels left out of a family secret now that she is not ready to learn yet.
The secret is death. The narrator feels thankful that she has not yet learned that secret and that she has more time to live and learn. She compares their graves to the family gatherings they have had in the past, and it makes her feel like a child again; her family would share grown-up secrets with one another but not with her.
Even though she feels left out, she seems happy that it is a secret that she is not ready to have shared with her. Some secrets are better left learning by experience, and she wants to learn that secret with experience.
I feel slightly similar to the way she does when I visit cemeteries. I feel lonely without them, but I am happy that I still have time on Earth to live my life. I know life is short, so I try to live my life to the fullest. I know death is not a secret I am ready to learn yet. There are so many things I have planned, and I thank God each day that He has given me one more day to do some of the things I have planned.
Even if you are ready to walk through the gates of heaven, death is not worth anticipating. Death is not worth achieving because you are unhappy with your life. Be thankful that you still have the chance to live your life because one day will come, and your time on earth will be through.
