The movie "Parent Hood" presented many different situations that theory can be applied to. There are many interesting characters such as Gill, who from the start, reminisced of his childhood, Piaget's Formal Operational Stage. How his father would take him to a baseball game once a year on his birthday. Gill was a child of neglectful parenting from his father. As he sat at the game and looked back he realized that his father, whose name is Frank, was left alone by his father. Gill seemed to understand the product of not having a father at home and that is what his father displayed. Gill, by reflecting on his childhood swore that he would never become the father his dad was to his children. Gill I believe was an authoritative parent. Once he found out there were something wrong with Kevin his son, he felt as if it were his fault, that he was not spending enough time with him. Gill goes through Erikson's seventh developmental stage, Generativity versus Stagnation. He feels throughout the picture that he must do something to help Kevin in his development. He shows this to when he daydreams of the consequences of Kevin missing the fly ball at the little league game. .
The next character I would like to mention is Helen, Gill's sister. Her life is also not so right. The fact that she is divorced raising two children alone has taken a toll on her. Helen's parenting style is Indulgent, she seems to be involved with her kids lives, but .
does not place many demands or controls on them. Gary her son, is very quiet, and keeps to himself. Gary has a resentment of his father leaving his mother, and kind of .
feels like she is responsible. Any attempt by Helen to get close to him, results in him running away. He even keeps a lock on his bedroom door. Gary is also in Sigmund Freud's Genital stage, he is confused about his masturbating and thinks something is wrong. Julie's boyfriend/husband Tod finally explains to him that it's normal for boys his age to do that.
