This act was seen by many to exceed parliament's constitutional right to tax the colonies. (TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTSATION) "These opinions were based on the theory that all parliament had the right to do was place external, trade regulating taxes on the colonies. This was clearly an internal, revenue raising measure, and overstepped parliament's bounds." (Encarta 2000) Adams was a leader of the movement against the Stamp Act in cooperation with the Loyal Nine, later to be known as the Son's of Liberty. The summer of 1765 was marked by a number of violent outbreaks all carefully staged and controlled by the Nine and Adams. After each riot Adams made public appeals against the violence, all the while having planned it in the first place. .
             On March 5, 1770, what began as routine ride of British soldiers by Bostonians, ended with the deaths of 5 men at the hands of the soldiers. British troops were called to the city to discourage demonstrations against the Townshend Acts (which imposed duties on imports to the colonies.). Citizens constantly harassed the troops, and during a demonstration, squads of British soldiers were struck by missiles thrown by the colonists. The soldiers fired into the crowd and killed five men. "Certainly there was orchestration of the confrontation between the soldiers and townspeople, probably by Adams and the son's of liberty."(Encarta 2000) After the Massacre Adams came out to insure that the event was understood and remembered in a fashion valuable to him and his allies. .
             The Boston Tea Party symbolized the height of non-military protest of the people of Boston. More importantly, the Boston Tea Party was the starting block of the American Revolutionary War. In the fall of 1773, King George III and Parliament revived the tax on tea in the colonies. This action lead to a united of the colonies as none of them would stand for taxed tea. Although the colonies could purchase British tea cheaper than Dutch, despite the added tax, colonists refused to do so.
