Foreshadowing in Lord of the Flies

Foreshadowing is presenting an indication or suggestion of before hand. William Golding uses foreshadowing to hint the impact of future events. The 3 examples of foreshadowing that impacted the novel most are Piggy's instant trust loyalty and trust in Ralph, the boys ignoring Piggy, and the incident in which Jack had the chance to kill a pig but didn't.
First, Piggy instantly trusted Ralph. This hints that they will stick together throughout the story. He instantly was friends with Ralph because, Ralph looked tall and athletic. Ralph was friendly. He was also helpful and polite to Piggy. Piggy and Ralph could combine to make the best character. Piggy has the intellectual skills, while Ralph has the abilities to lead. This example of foreshadowing impacts the novel because Ralph and Piggy are eventually separated by death. They share many preferences. Piggy: "I agree with Ralph. We've got to have rules and obey them. After all, we're not savages. We're English; and the English are best at everything. So we've got to do the right things." Ralph learned how to make sufficient decisions. Ralph: "Lying there in the darkness, he knew he was an outcast. 'Cos I had some sense." Another way this impacts the story is after Piggy dies Ralph is lost without Piggy's Guidance. Not only does Piggy's friendship with Ralph foreshadow later development, the boys ignorance of Ralph's orders. .
Second, Ralph's orders are ignored by the other boys. This is caused by Jack's great and eventually negative influence. These choices foreshadow that Jack will lead the boys away from civilization (opposite of Ralph) and into primitive animal instincts. While Jack and the boys are hunting, the fire dies out. Ralph: "But I tell you that smoke is more important than the pig, however often you kill one." " There wasn't anyone to watch it. This impacts the chances of the boys getting rescued. Jacks influence on the boys overpowers Ralph's.
