The product I am discussing is Winston Cigarettes which is one of the biggest cigarette companies in the world. I believe these ads work, but not all of them work for the same people some are focused more for the occasional smoker where one is focused on the everyday smoker. The first two ads achieve their success by using visual objects and they also use strong text, and the last one uses very strong text and some visual objects to try to catch the eye of the reader. This essay will discuss the type of visual objects and textual structure used to catch the readers" attention.
These ads appeal to many different age groups. The first ad is aimed toward men between the ages of eighteen years old to thirty- five years old. The reason I say this is due to the fact that I got the ad out of For Him Magazine (FHM). The women in bikinis also make it more of a target for men. The second ad is also aimed more towards men because there is a sports bike in the ad and it seems like you can get the girl. Then there is the third ad, which I think can really be aimed toward many different age groups and doesn't matter if you are male or female. It is more for the active smoker the ones who go out a lot and do active things. .
In the first ad, the focal point is the word Winston in caps across the center of the page. But there are a few more things that stick out; for one the girl laying out in the front of the picture is quite catchy due to the fact that she is pretty and also in a bikini. This makes it real appealing to the eye of men because who wouldn't want to stop and look at the page if you see a beautiful woman in a bikini. I think that it implies that if you smoke Winston's you will be in the "in crowd". The setting that this ad has is kind of a surreal place with the ocean in the background with the sun setting and then a natural pool on the waterfront that is nice, blue and calm.
