             The bagger at the grocery store and the mailman can be one. In current times, there is no limitation on who can be a hero. In just a split second, a normal individual can be transformed into a person equal to a God with one seemingly simple act. This was not always the case though. Back in Greek and Roman times only the elite and noble-like men, and I stress the word men, were looked at as heroes. How and why did this trend change and what characteristics do modern heroes have to have? .
             So what exactly is it that makes someone a hero in the modern era? For some it might not take a whole lot. Being a good father or mother to a child could be all a person needs to do be a hero in someone's eyes. Today's hero is created just as much out of necessity as feat. People need heroes to give hope. On September 11, 2001, with the United States in shock and awe of what had just taken place, television stations and newspapers showed shots of the brave men and women working around the clock to help find any survivors in the wreckage of the twin towers. These people were heroes in the minds of American viewers and rightfully so. People needed to see these visions to help deal with the hard times facing their friends, family and countrymen. Stories of firefighters who went back time after time, risking their lives for others gave the prototypical look at what a hero should be like. Red cross workers at a disaster site, doctors in the emergency room, and sometimes even sports start can also be considered heroes in the modern American culture. People do not have to be famed war veterans to have a .
             So basically all of this says, is with the right circumstance anyone can be turned into a hero. Heroes are usually selfless individuals with the goal of bettering a tough situation whether it be providing for one's family or saving someone from drowning. This is not just my individual belief, but it is also what society, as a whole believes.
