A Thousand Acres

This quality about her character is not a quality she shares with Goneril, because Goneril is a very selfish person, a person who would refuse to accept such chores. In the book many people depended on Ginny's help giving her in a sort of way the role of a mother. She was like the centerpiece in keeping everything under control on the farm. She did more than what she had to for other people. On the other hand Goneril wasn't the centerpiece of anything, she didn't have to worry about many of the things Ginny did, her dad was the king and she had servers and a lot of power. Jane by changing the character of Goneril into a more helpful person helps the audience feel remorse towards her instead of the father. She was traumatized from what had happened to her earlier in life that she lost all respect for herself and grew up to be a weak person and to never stand up for herself. .
Moreover, when Larry Cook, Ginny's father got into a car accident while driving under the influence Ginny responded to such event in an unexpected way as she is to play the character of Goneril. She was worried about her father and rushed to the hospital .
since she did not want him to die. Once Ginny found out that her father was ok she said, "I know you are hurt, and I"m sorry you got into a car accident, but now's the time to talk about it. You are going to be in real trouble pretty soon, when the state troopers come over. You've got to take this to heart. You simply can't drive all over creation, and you especially can't do it when you"re drinking. It's not right. You could kill somebody. Or kill yourself for that manner". The reaction Ginny had was one of a caring daughter. She wanted to make sure he understood that what he had done was wrong and that he could get severely punished for his careless actions. Her reaction to the events was extremely different from the reaction the event would have gotten from Goneril.
