So the psychologist puts Peter under hypnosis and makes him happy, just so Peter can see what it feels like not to have a care in the world. Then, all of a sudden, then psychologist has a heart attack and dies. This leaves Peter pleasantly content with life, and all aspects of it, including the doctor's death.
Happy as he is, he doesn't go into work on the weekend. In fact, he decides not to work any more at all. So when two management-enhancement consultants called the "Bob's" enter the company with the multi-task of empowering a downsizing strategy procedure.well, Peter's nominal job seems imminently doomed. Fine with him. However, that's when the switcheroo occurs. Peter's frankness convinces the consulting people that he's the only honest, capable person on the entire staff, so they promote him and lay off his two buddies Michael and Samir, who have been working overtime to avoid being fired.
Not leaving his friends in a lurch, he helps his friends by getting them to go long with a scam Michael had thought of long ago. The main point of the scam was to mastermind a scheme to embezzle small amounts of money from Initech's clients, but so minusculey that Initech would never figure it out. The scam was this: Since each days profit go into Initech's company account, there are usually fractions of a cent that get rounded up; so Peter, Michael and Samir decided that instead of rounding the money up, they would just put the fractions of the cents into an account that was owned by them. This way in a couple year's they will each end up with a couple hundred thousand. .
While this scam is going on, another worker Tom, from Initech that works with Peter, Samir and Michael decided to commit suicide since he was going to get fired. Then after seeing his wife he decides he wants to live, so while backing out of his driveway to go to his last day of work he gets hit by a drunk driver. He does not only break many bones in his body but gets 7 figures from the drunk driver, which makes him an instant millionaire.
