Sports and Media

Now people all over the world can watch such sporting events live and sometimes delayed telecasts in some isolated areas. More sophisticated ideas like posting live updates on the internet has given more people around the world of all walks of life the same opportunity to check up on their team/teams in the NBA/NFL/NHL/F1/World Cup/ and other sporting events. For example, when I was living in the Philippines, local television would not show all the NBA basketball games. Since scores are not posted on the newspaper or any other type of media, what I would do is check the scores on the internet using the site NBA.com which provides live-up to the minute updates. Even though I was half way around the world, I was able to keep up to date with the player trades, scores, highlights, and other intriguing news that would occur in the sporting world. The internet gave me inspiration and ideas on how to become a better basketball player so in a sense it has endorsed the sport in elevations never reached and also made the games more exciting to fans. .
One evidence of the growth in sports would be the application of sports content in different media vehicles. We find new forms of media like the internet, videogames, clothing, and music which all promote sports content. A perfect illustration of this is the ESPN commercial in which Nelly's, "Air Force One " music video plays and at the end of the commercial bold letters pop out saying, "Without sports their wouldn"t be anything to wear ." In this particular example, we can see that the artist is rapping about sport shoes. This commercial utilizes many different forms of media form such as music, video, and clothing line infused into one package which makes it a very effective way to sell the idea to consumers that, "without sports their wouldn"t be anything to wear". Another example is the various sports videogames being produced and out in the market now.
