First of all, health is an important issue. Nutrition is among the many factors that shape the lives of children. It is crucial to supply a healthy balance diet for children, not only to make sure they get the nutrients they need in short term, so their bodies can grow, work and repair themselves properly, but it is also a matter of long term benefits, to help health much later in life. All schools should be pushing toward the goal to provide nutritious, appetizing foods that will contribute to growth and good health of students. Children that receive more food will not be weak and will be ready to work. Also, disorders such as anorexia may be prevented if more food is served. Being healthy is easy, but staying healthy is much more difficult.
Next, grades will improve greatly if more food is added to the lunch program. If students are to do well at school, they need fuel to keep the brain functioning. To keep the brain functioning, they need constant top ups of proteins, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. This will influence growth, keep a constant supply of energy, and an ability for the body to fight off infection, as well as allow them the chance to concentrate in class. Recent research shows that nourishing food not only makes a child healthier, it makes him or her emotionally more stable, and it improves school performance. Children who are more nutritionally fit are more likely to have the energy and self-esteem that enhance their ability to learn.
