             The purpose of this paper is to explain what The Joint Commission (formerly The Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations)does to help the health care industry improve quality care and safe practice. The accreditation of hospitals and other facilities is an ongoing process, which pushes these organizations to achieve higher standards of care. The Joint Commission is not only a checks and balance type of system, but it is a learning tool for all who participate in our health care industry. The article reviewed and analyzed in this paper, will convey not only the benefits to The Joint Commissions efforts, but how they address the problematic areas in patient care. .
             The Joint Commission- A Higher Standard of Care.
             The article "The Joint Commission: A New Look at What it Can Do"," dives into the driving forces of this organization; describing how they impact healthcare facilities while upholding the standards set to ensure patient safety and quality care. The Joint Commission is not only responsible for safety and health advancement for larger facilities like hospitals but they also work with smaller facilities, as in, the group practices and ambulatory services. The company's mission is as follows: "To continuously improve health care for the public, in collaboration with other stakeholders, by evaluating health care organizations and inspiring them to excel in providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value" (2013). The chief purpose of this paper is to furnish a sense of insight into what the Joint Commission does for the healthcare industry. .
             "In addition to core measures for hospitals, we work primarily through 2 vehicles to improve safety and quality in health care: (1) Accreditation Standards, and (2) National Patient Safety Goals" " (2008). A team of diverse and experienced experts use various steps to create a set of standards that are implemented and acclimated into the various areas of practice.
