Thomas Jefferson - American Founding Father


            Thomas Jefferson was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States and a key spokesperson for democracy and equal rights for all Americans. Jefferson sparked change in the hearts of many men during the American Revolution. During this time period, Jefferson served as the nation's first secretary of state, its second vice president, and its third president. Thomas Jefferson had strong views of independence and in his heart, he knew that the possibilities of a new revolution were soon to come. His many achievements and contributions such as the drafting of the Declaration of Independence, the negotiations of the Louisiana Purchase, his efforts in the construction of the Statue of Virginia for Religious Freedom, and the dream and achievement of the opening of the University of Virginia, are the things which Thomas Jefferson used to leave his mark in the history of the United States of America. .
             Thomas Jefferson was a man who would have fully supported todays' famous quote, "It's not always what you know, but sometimes it's who you know." He was fully aware of the benefits behind the idea of having many allies, especially powerful allies. The Louisiana Purchase was greatest and most significant territory purchased by the U.S. during its' time period. It was a negotiation for land between the United States and France in 1803, in which the U.S. gained approximately 827,000 square miles of land to the west of the Mississippi River for $15 million dollars. Initially, Jefferson envisioned on obtaining the territory from Spain but events were altered and the U.S not only gaining a massive beneficial piece of land, but also gained the powerful Napoleon Bonaparte of France as a very beneficial ally. .
             As a response to this mishaps, in1802 Spanish authorities revoked the U.S. Spanish treaty that granted Americans the right to store goods in New Orleans.
