Living With the Impact of Global Terrorism

As an American, the thought of enduring another terrorist attack is always lingering in the back of our minds. The thought of another world tragedy is something one always has to be prepared for. Terrorism is defined as: the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes. The Olympic games were created to promote unity and peace between different nations. However, during the 1972 Munich Games a Palestinian militant group named Black September took the Israeli national team hostage. After a 16-hour standoff, every member of the Israeli national team was killed as well as members from the Black September group. In the next few paragraphs I will go into detail about the different aspects of terrorism. .
As I stated before, terrorism is defined as the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce. There are two categories of terrorism, which are domestic and international. Domestic terrorism is characterized as groups whose activities are conducted in the United States without foreign influence. Their activities are aimed at the United States government or population. International terrorist are groups of foreign individuals who perform activities against the United States. Terrorist groups are also either non-state supported, state-supported, or state-directed. Non-state supported groups receive no funds from a government, while state-supported groups are usually independent; they still receive support from governments. State-directed groups are considered agents of a government; they receive "intelligence, logistics, and operational support from the sponsoring government" (Section 4, n.d). .
The United States will always be a main target for terrorist groups. "The greatest terrorist threat to the United States today comes from fundamentalist Islamic extremist groups" (Section 4, n.d) who will stop at nothing to hurt the United States again.
