Living With the Impact of Global Terrorism

Party of God, HAMAS and the Algerian Armed Islamic Group all receive support from their sponsors to carry out their goals. However, new Islamic terrorist groups are beginning to be on the rise due to the activities of ad hoc terrorist groups. They are even more dangerous because they have the ability to produce "sophisticated conventional weapons, as well as chemical and biological agents" (Section 4, n.d). The main goal of these groups is to "punish the United States and other western nations by inflicting heavy civilian casualties" (Section 4, n.d). One or two things usually motivate terrorist acts: social and political injustice, and the belief that violence or its threat will be effective. In the social and political injustice aspect, individuals turn to terrorism "when they are trying to right what they perceive to be a social, or political, or historical wrong"(Are All, n.d), such as being stripped of their land or rights. Terrorists often feel that violence is the only way to go and they have no choice but to revert to violence. In the 1930s, the Zionists bombed British targets because they felt they had to, to create a Jewish state. Osama Bin Laden's declaration of war against the United States ensued because he felt that the presence of U.S troops in Saudi Arabia posed a threat "to the kind of Islamic state he believed should exist in the Arabian Peninsula" (Are All, n.d). Individuals have a choice in using violence or not to get their points across. As I stated before, some terrorist groups feel that violence is the only answer to their problems. .
A terrorist group main goal is to have an everlasting emotional impact on their targets audience. There are five goals of terrorist groups: recognition, coercion, intimidation, provocation, and insurgency support. When terrorist groups first started coming around, their biggest goal was to gain recognition.
