Discourse Community Analysis

To apply for the position I had to create a portfolio with responses to different scenarios that I could be put in. I also had to design my portfolio to show my creativeness, and I had to give a speech to the team; all of this was to prove that I was worthy of being a drill team Social Officer. .
             For the portfolio response part I had seen most of the scenarios in real life. I simply realized what other officers did in those situations and if their action was successful I used the same response but if their action was unsuccessful I gave a better response also giving what the good outcome as well as the bad outcome of my action to the scenario. I felt that my responses could be successful I also tested them on members to see if it would actually work and it did. .
             Reflecting back on when I was trying out for the position; in my speech I simply stated what the team could be like if I was elected Social Officer the things that could change us as a team. For the team to believe in what I was saying I pointed out the type of person I was over the past years. Such as how helpful I was if anyone needed help I was there to give assistance to my best ability. Also if there was any disagreement between anyone I was a mediator, I was also one to turn a sad unsatisfying frown to a smile by simply telling a joke or just messing with you. I was also like a bank I loaned out whatever I could, I was also like a therapist if you needed to talk I was there to listen and give you the response I felt best fit for the situation. One may say that I didn't deserve the position of Social Officer because I had no prior knowledge as of what a social officer stood for, what they did and the dance experience. I would agree with the naysayer; I at first did not know the actual duties of a social officer I just wanted to be a leader of something. That suddenly changed after I was accepted for the position; I and the other officers had officer camp during the summer.
