Discourse Community Analysis

To earn a position of a discourse community one must possess accurate knowledge, establish reliability of members to be accepted and learn to persuade other members of the community. I once held a position in part of a discourse community on my high schools drill team; there I established reliability with others, learned to become a leader and gained knowledge of skills. One may question my position as a member of my drill teams discourse community. I began dancing in elementary and from then on I knew that dancing was something that I wanted to do through my grade school years. Once I became a part of the high schools drill team a new onset of life hit me. The dancing I been doing didn't prepare me to be successful in high school dancing. My first two years of the high school dance team I gained skills such as how to point my toes and how to hold my hands when doing a turn. My senior year I decided to take an initiative and wanted a position other than member on the team; so I tried out for a Social Officer position. I will prove that I entered my high school discourse community drill team by giving examples of ethos, pathos and logos. .
I used ethos appeal to show my director and team members that I had the ability to have a higher position. For my first two years on the team I paid close attention to what the girls who held an officer position did, I took notes from their actions and attitude and further decided that I too could become a higher member of my high schools drill team. My senior year I decided to put action behind my words I applied to become a Social Officer. A Social Officer is one female from each grade level that gets together as an officer line and plan better for the team as a whole. Someone might say that anyone could become an officer with the right dance technique. I would agree and say yes having dance technique is a part of becoming an officer, but there is much more behind the position; one must have dedication, determination, and also some creativity.
