Conflict Between Science and Genesis Chapter One

            One of the big questions in today's society, Is there a conflict between science and genesis? People debate this question a lot in today's society and no matter how many people you ask you will almost always get a different answer. In the video "Science and the book of Genesis" it is discussed that there is in fact NOT a conflict between science and genesis. Genesis is not a factually true story. Genesis is considered a religious myth. So what is a religious myth? A religious myth is a story that shows a person's beliefs about the correlation of God and mankind. There is no scientific proof that god exists. The book of genesis was never intended to be a factual story. It was written to go against the creation stories of the time. Examples of the creations stories of the time were the Egyptian Creation story or the Babylonian creation story. The creation story of how the world was created and about Adam and Eve was not written to be literal but rather to emphasis different points about God and how his followers should live. .
             In science there are certain ways of doing things. There are theories that have to be tested and retested until they find the answer that they are looking for. There has to be proof or at progress toward finding the proof. Science embraces the thought about Darwinism which tells us that mankind doesn't come from a God of greater power but rather through evolution. As pointed out in the video science and the book of genesis it seems as though the book of genesis is written to avoid doing the work of science. It was easier to think about a story of .
             some mythical creature or god to explain how mankind came about. While the writer was at it he or she figured why not throw in a few moral examples to have to people follow to help stop whatever problems there were in the world. .
             When reading different parts of genesis you can get a sense of what the writer was trying to convey.
